Freddie Freeman was called up to the Braves organization at the end of last year. He reported to spring training at ESPN's Wide World of Sports just the other day, not as an invitee like previous years, but as a starter for the team. The Braves see a tremendous about of potential in this young first baseman. Like Jason Heyward, Freeman is also only 21 years old (born 34 days after Heyward). They met for the first time at an all-star game while still in high school. Then, in the 2007 draft, Heyward was picked by the Braves in the first round, Freeman went in the second. They spent much of their minor-league time on the same team, starting out together in the Gulf Coast League, moving rapidly up the chain through Rome, Myrtle Beach, Mississippi and Gwinnett. Last year, when Heyward made it to the big leagues and Freeman played for the Braves’ Triple-A club in suburban Atlanta, they lived together in Heyward’s townhouse. With their chemistry already established this duo is the future of the Braves organization.
