NFL Playoffs 2011: How the New York Jets are using social media

This article is an interview with Jets Executive Vice President of Operations, Matt Higgins who is in charge of the Jet's successful social media campaign. The Jets are currently the most followed team in the NFL on Twitter, currently at 88,945 and have an even more impressive Facebook page. The Jets claim to have the "1st revenue generating Facebook application to be backed by a sports team, which is called "Ultimate Fan". This app allows fan's to interact with each other at virtual tailgates, while also providing a great platform for companies to showcase their brand. For example, while at the virtual tailgate a fan can have a "Met Life" blimp fly over their virtual party. This innovative combination has lead to alot of interest from companies who are seeking to tap into this market segment. I believe in the future we will see more and more creative ways sports organizations will use apps similar to the Jets "Ultimate Fan" to increase revenue from sponsors as they both seek to increase their brand equity.
