After the Jets win against the Patriots, 28-21, their jabbering is not only working but it does not look as if they are stopping anytime soon. Journalists note that it is not how it is normally done in the NFL or in any other sport. However, New York Jets players such as Dwight Lowery say, "We've got guys who are confident and we all show that confidence in different ways." Head coach Rex Ryan and his players have indeed been profane and do not particularly care who they offend. They in fact refer to it as being 'confident talkers' rather than talking trash.
With the New York Jets success on the field and their use of language off, they must still face the Pittsburgh Steelers come Sunday. Rex's confidence has not changed and said to his players, 'There's always going to be people who like what you do, and others who don't like you, whether you're a football player, an astronaut, a doctor or just some guy on the street,'" according to Lowery. "He's told us that people are not going to like us, and there are people that love us and others who are in between. So, you've just got to be yourself."
While most professional sports include fans trash talking, it is different to hear it coming from its own players. And yes, even though the Jets are playing tough and winning to back up their comments, it affects the integrity of the game. I disagree with, “A lot of teams have great players and don’t say it. Well, we say it” (Pouha). Talented players will gain recognition and therefore it does not matter how much trash talking they do off the field.
