In the ultimate display of selfishness, West Virginia basketball player Danny Johnson got off the bench and walked away during the second half of their game on Sunday. He was a bench player not getting many minutes and he probably won't be getting more any time soon. After the game his coach, Bob Huggins, said it was "unexcused, inexcusible. Never to be seen again, I guess."
Playing Division I basketball and earning a free ride through college is a priveldge that very, very few people get to enjoy. Plus all of the practices, meetings, scrimmages and games the entire team has to go through; Danny Johnson had a real commitment to the University, his teammates and the fans. Even if he was a bench player, they offered to bring him in and be a part of the team. The fact that he threw it all away speaks volumes about what kind of person he is and is the living proof of the phrase, quitters never win.
