The best NBA All-Star Game ever?

The talent pool in the NBA has been steadily growing over the past decade and with the all-star game coming we may need a bigger pool. This article talks about this years all-star game and compares it too past all-star games. Although the author (simmons) eventually concluded it may play second fiddle to the 1987 all-star game that pulled out a hall of fame lineup. The NBA this year has been phenomenal and the all-star game looks to be no different. Lets take a look at the teams.

2011 all-star team
PG: Rose versus Paul (battle for the point guard title)
SG: Wade versus Kobe (battle for "Best 2-Guard" status)
SF: LeBron versus Melo ('03 draft retro-rivalry)
PF: Garnett versus Durant (old school versus new school)
C: Howard versus Duncan (new school versus old school)

1987 all-star team
PG: Isiah versus Magic
SG: Jordan versus Blackman
SF: Bird versus Worthy
PF: McHale versus Chambers
C: Moses versus Hakeem

Looking at the all-star team this year I can't imagine one of those guys not in the hall of fame when their careers are over. Dirk is coming off the bench Blake Griffin or Kevin Love may not even make the team this game is deep. This game has potential to be a classic and maybe even the best All-star game ever. With all the story lines and questions coming into the game that may be the last one answered.
