Before getting accepted into UCF I didn't know much about the school. Lacking school history and powerhouse sports programs, it made sense. In my time at this school I have seen an incredible transformation. As a freshmen, you would see more UM, FSU, and and UF hats, shirts, and shorts worn by students on campus than UCF clothes. This year though, things seem to be different. Rather than being fans of other schools, a great number of students here actually seem proud to be a UCF Knight. A major reason is the recent success in sports. Both our football and basketball teams were ranked for the first time in school history. I always questioned why our programs took so long to take off. USF built their football program out of a portable and were quickly ranked #2 in the nation. Friends in Gainesville were fortunate enough to win a championship in both basketball and football (2 of each) which is unbelievable. Seeing our programs get built in my years here has been a great thing to watch. Rather than finding hidden gems in high school, we are stealing top recruits from big name schools left and right. Many Knights are happy with all we have done but I know there is a lot in store for us in the future.
