Jets vs Patriots feud fueled by Twitter

The New York Jets and New England Patriots launched verbal barbs at each other throughout the week, leading up to Sunday's NFL Divisional Round playoff game. Sound clips and video clips of the teams taking shots at each other were rampant, and these are the norm when it comes to rivals in big games. But this rivalry took a turn for the interesting when Jets center Nick Mangold tweeted about Patriots wide receiver, Wes Welker, in response to his verbal shots against Jets coach Rex Ryan. Mangold tweeted: "Wes Welker is a great player. He's really taken advantage of watching film. If we don't keep a Spy on him, he could really open the Gate" This is a reference to what is now known famously as "Spygate", a controversy where the Patriots were caught filming other teams' practices, walkthroughs, and signals, which was against NFL rules. That a rivalry of this magnitude could spill onto Twitter and generate so much media attention is fascinating, and shows the new direction that the media industry is taking.
