Brandon Roy to have arthroscopic surgery on both knees

In 2014-2015 Brandon Roy will have an option to pick up $19 million dollars from whichever team he ends up playing for.

This article is one of many and probably the exclamation mark on an awful and sad season by Brandon Roy. Brandon Roy is dealing with a knee injury that seems to have no end in sight. Roy's knees are both bone to bone and this surgery is being seen as a temporary fix which will hopefully reduce pain. The recovery period is usually 3-4 weeks but Roy has a special circumstance and may remain sidelined longer.

Roy had just signed a five year extension last season with the Blazers who were looking to lockup their young star for seemingly the rest of his career. With knowledge of his current condition at the time I personally believe a one year contract may have ensured the same thing.

Looking at this situation from both sides leads you with a feeling of depression. The Blazers can't seem to catch a break and decided to take a risk with a young up and coming star who has had his share of injuries in the past. Although Wesley Matthews has risen up to the challenge of filling in for Roy its hard to see the Blazers remaining successful without Roy returning back to old form. Brandon Roy was an up and coming star who decided to rush back from surgery to repair a torn miniscus (which he no longer has) during the playoffs and tried to will his team past the Suns in the playoffs. That didn't seem to work and may have torn Roy's chances of fully recovering and becoming a superstar.

Five years from now Roy will be getting played to play basketball at a high level, the only question is will he be.
