Often, we hear sports described as an escape, a shelter from the troubles of the real world. The Olympics was founded on that very premise. But sometimes, reality creeps into the supposed safe haven that is sports. It has happened today, as an upcoming USA vs Egypt soccer match in Cairo, Egypt has been cancelled due to political unrest. The current government is facing the possibility of being overthrown, thus causing chaos in Egypt. Sports has been known to bring together enemies, transcend tragedy, and bring back a sense of normalcy to a troubled nation. However, this time, it will not get that chance.
