The point system that has been used since 1975 may come to an end before the start of this season. This change would be the first of many to come. The changes to the point system would include awarding 43 points to the winner and 1 less to each person who places after them. The only problems with this proposed system is that there is no way to award bonus points that were available with the old system. They plan on also making changes to their "Chase for the Sprint Cup" championship format as well. The biggest change would be that the 11th and 12th spots in the championship would be wild cards and go to the two drivers who had the most wins but did not qualify in the top 10. All the announcements will be finalized next week.
