Social Media in Sports for 2011

As 3D and HD televisions are gaining popularity, what does it mean for sports organization's ticket sales?

In order to overcome a decrease in ticket sales for the upcoming season, sports teams must improve the value of watching the sports event live, as opposed to watching it comfortably reclined in a Lazy Boy, drinking beer that isn't six dollars a bottle, with a bathroom just seconds away.

In 2011, sports team will rely heavy on social media to better enhance the stadium experience. Some examples are as follow:

- Fans who "Check In" to the sports venue will be offered deals and discounts on merchandise and concessions
- NFL teams adopting "FanVision," which offers video highlights of games to those inside the stadium on Sundays
- Offer free Wi-Fi throughout the entire stadium
- Social video gaming via Facebook
- More focus on social media. Social media positions are becoming very popular throughout the sports industry.
