For Holmes, the Foe Is Familiar

This past Saturday the Jets quarterbacks and wide receivers had a meeting to go over the game plan, for what turned out to be a huge upset over the favored New England Patriots. However, two of the Jets star receivers, Santonio Holmes and Jerricho Cotchery, were late for this meeting. The reason you ask? Because they had their eyes glued to the Steelers 31-24 comeback victory over the Baltimore Ravens.

Now Santonio has the chance to not only face the team who dropped him like a hot sack of potatoes nine months ago, but to also become the first-ever Super Bowl MVP to face his old team in a conference title championship game. Santonio served four faithful seasons with the Steelers and jointly lead them to a Super Bowl victory. After violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy and receiving a 4 game suspension the Steelers decided that they were going to wash there hands clean of Santonio and his off the field issues. They traded the 25th round 2006 draft pick to the Jets for their sixth-round pick. Was it worth it? I would say so especially after his big play in the third quarter of this past weekend’s game, which helped the Jets secure a nice lead on the Pat’s.

Is Mr. Holmes looking forward to playing against his old team? “No question I want to see those guys”, say Santonio. Its not because he wants to prove to the world that the Steelers made a mistake (which clearly they did), Mr. Holmes is far too calm and cool for that. He can’t wait to go back to Heinz Field so he can help lead the Jets to an AFC championship victory, by helping his team exploit the Steelers defense, which he knows all to well. “This week there wont be any late meetings”, said Santonio.
